THE GOOD DOCTOR’S CURE | MATARO SHIRAZ

2018 THE GOOD DOCTOR'S CURE Mataro Shiraz
"An extremely characterful wine of power and a riveting exactitude of tannic burr. Meaty, carnal, ferrous. Sanguine. Gorgeous tannins of thorough persuasiveness. I would like a little mid-palate plushness, possibly deliverable care of grenache in the future. Very good, in any case, to see shiraz play its rightful back-burner role across a swashbuckling expression of strident confidence and wonderful tannins." 2023 Halliday Wine Companion

2019 THE GOOD DOCTOR'S CURE Mataro Shiraz
"Dark, brooding, ferrous wine of distinct personality and impact. Black fruit, liquorice, some dried herb perfume and dark spice. It’s slick and concentrated, packing in plenty of Mataro character, Old Jamaica chocolate and blackberry, smooth cocoa powder tannin, and a robust finish of excellent length. Really very good, and while potent, it keeps itself balanced and drinks well." Gary Walsh, The WineFront

ABOUT US

Dr Plonk is a small producer of boutique, red wines. The wine produced under the Dr Plonk label is a reflection of terroir, all fruit harvested from the home of Dr Plonk, Paeroa Vineyard. The site lends itself well to varieties grown in a Mediterranean climate and the Southern Rhone; Tannat, Shiraz, Cabernet, Carignan, Mataro and Montepulciano. The terroir is evident in wines produced from the Paeroa Vineyard showing impressive structure, savoury, persistent tannins and a full-bodied palate.

Dr Plonk tends to his vines daily, the fruit of his labours revealing themselves at harvest.

VITICULTURE & SUSTAINABILITY

Since purchasing the vineyard in 2009, vine and soil management with innovative and sustainable practices have been at the forefront of priorities. I am passionate about environmental health and continually strive to use innovation and infrastructure improvements to decrease our environmental footprint – solar panels powering winery and bore, reduced fossil fuel usage, no synthetic chemical use, grazing animals (sheep) for winter pasture management, under vine cultivation, reduced trellis post waste through use of OCLOC repair system, moisture monitoring, soil and petiole analysis and use of micronutrients

WINE JOURNALIST REVIEWS

2012 THE GOOD DOCTORS TONIC

“A blend of Tannat, Cabernet and Shiraz with fruit sourced from McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, it carries the said 15.5% alcohol with absolute ease and it holds its shape impressively. Generous doses of licorice and licorice bullets, dark chocolate, fruit cake and pretty scents of violets are enough to send you into a spin. Dense and silky smooth, it just keeps giving and makes me think of those lyrics from Madonna, "I can't help falling in love, I fall deeper and deeper the further I go." Just magic given its age - all for 40 bucks. Well played Doctor.” QWine Reviews
